All American Girls’ Professional League Player Cards
Posted June 17, 2012
Texas A&M University graduate and handball aficionado, Beth Rowley began collecting sports memorabilia over thirty years ago. The Rowley Collection contains rare photographs, ephemera, and memorabilia from baseball’s Negro Leagues and the All-American Professional Girls’ Baseball League; hundreds of player cards, as well as sporting memorabilia and photographs from football, basketball, hockey, and baseball, to name a few sports. Despite the sheer size of Rowley’s collection, what is especially notable is that she managed to obtain signatures for most of the pieces of her collection. Over two-thirds of the covers of her almost 700 Sports Illustrated magazines have been autographed by the cover person(s), including baseball’s Stan Musial, Ernie Banks, Pete Rose, Goose Gossage, John Smoltz, Nolan Ryan, and many more. Basketball covers include the signatures of Pat Riley, Larry Bird, John Wooden, Sheryl Swoopes, and Nancy Lieberman Cline, among others. There are footballs signed by Troy Aikman and Terry Bradshaw; 121 autographed baseballs; a 300-game winner baseball and a 500-homerun hitter baseball signed by most of the honorees in those categories. Many of the rest of the photographs, player cards, and sporting memorabilia in Beth Rowley’s Collection also bear autograph(s).
