Scholarly Sports Sites
Armed with remarkable foresight and extraordinary organizational skills, Gretchen Ghent, librarian at the University of Calgary, began to collect and compile a list of sport research-relevant web sites, long before most of us knew there were such sites. The result was the researcher-friendly Scholarly Sports Sites, a reference web site that Ms. Ghent maintained for 11 years. In 2010, the Stark Center was pleased to become the new home for the Scholarly Sports Sites. While we have adapted the site, we are indebted to Ms. Ghent and the University of Calgary for their years of work.
If you have a site that you like to have added, please send an email to cindy@starkcenter.org.

In some instances the name of a test is used as a descriptor (e.g. Harvard Step Test in SPORTDiscus), however most test names are found in the Abstract field (sometimes the title). Therefore a free text search can be employed. For example, in SPORTDiscus (and the other databases), a researcher should perform a free text search for the Exercise-induced feeling inventory (EFI) using the full test name and/or the acronym. Other approaches can be made through use of the descriptors, e.g. in SPORTDiscus use:
- testing
- test reliability
- physical fitness and testing
- instrumentation (used for scale and test protocol)
- Many other combinations can be used depending on the type of test required.
- List of Named Tests in SPORTDiscus
- The above list may be found as an appendice to the Search Guide for Finding Test / Testing Information in SPORTDiscus.
