The H.J. Lutcher Stark Center
Welcome to our new home
It's an exciting time at the Stark Center. Every week, new artifacts are added to the collection, walls are put up in the Joe and Betty Weider Museum, and art is framed and hung in the Art Gallery.
The pictures below have been taken over the course of our move from Anna Hiss Gymnasium into the Darrell K. Royal Texas Memorial Stadium. Be sure to come visit us so you can see the Center for yourself - we are now open to visitors and researchers.
The Joe and Betty Weider Museum of Physical Culture
Current status: under construction
With a current estimated completion date of early 2010, the Joe and Betty Weider Museum of Physical Culture will hold six different exhibits pertaining to the history of weight training, the quest for improved physique, and many other aspects of physical culture, from ancient Roman times to present day.
The Lobby and Reading Room
Current status: complete
The lobby and reading room areas of the Stark Center have been completed and are open to visitors. The Art Gallery is still growing as paintings and other artworks are obtained.
See more pictures of the statues in the reading room on our Statues page.
The Todd-McLean Library
Current status: complete
Thanks to the generous donation of shelving units from the Southwest Solutions Group and Scott & White Hospital in Temple, Texas, we have installed compact shelves throughout the archival area that are currently being filled with books, magazines, and artifacts.
A huge thanks goes to all the great workers who have helped with the move and the construction and finishing of our Center - their labor over the past months has been essential in creating all that can now be called the H.J. Lutcher Stark Center!
