The 100-UP Exercise and "Running" chapter in Training for Athletics by W.G. George
- A recent article in the New York Times Magazine has spurred renewed interest in W. C. George’s book The 100-Up Exercise. Because Mr. George’s running techniques are fueling some of the discussion surrounding barefoot running and because the book is very difficult to find, the Stark Center is pleased to offer this .pdf version of the book in its entirety. In addition, we are also pleased to make available a related chapter on running training by Mr. George published in Training for Athletics. George F. Jowett Papers
George F. Jowett was one of the first to offer strength correspondence courses to people at a time when there really were relatively few gymnasiums. The Stark Center is pleased to announce that the George F. Jowett Papers held at the Center have been indexed and are now available as a finding aid.
Attila Scrapbook
The five-inch-thick scrapbook of professional strongman and gym owner known as "Professor Attila" is filled with dozens of articles about Attila's performances as a strongman, his partnership with Sandow, his gym in New York City, and advertisements for his acts.
Pudgy Stockton Finding Aid
Abbye "Pudgy" Stockton played a central role in popularizing physical culture and exercise for women in the central decades of the twentieth century. Access to the Stockton Papers is restricted to visitors of the H.J. Lutcher Stark Center. This detailed 199-page finding aid will help researchers prepare for research.

Iron Game History: The Journal of Physical Culture began in 1990 as a journal for people who want to write about, read about, or formally research the history of physical culture.
