Iron Game History
Iron Game History: The Journal of Physical Culture began in 1990 as a journal for people who want to write about, read about, or formally research the history of physical culture. In past days, magazines such as Strength & Health and Iron Man carried material of this sort on a regular basis in either an article or a news format but Strength & Health is no longer being published and Iron Man has become more focused on the modern bodybuilding scene. Among academic publications, the Journal of Sport History carries articles in this general field from time to time but the main thrust of that journal is, as its name implies, directed at competitive sports.
Iron Game History is totally non-profit, peer-reviewed, and published under the auspices of the Roy J. McLean Sports History Fellowship at The University of Texas. No one is paid for articles or artwork and no one is paid for editorial work. The magazine layouts are done by Jan Todd. The money we receive from subscriptions to IGH is used to pay for printing and mailing and we use surplus monies, when there are any, to increase the size and quality of the journal. What started as a sixteen page journal with few photographs has evolved into a thirty-six page journal filled with photographs and line-art drawings from the Todd-McLean Physical Culture Collection. We offer a variety of subscription opportunities: four issues, eight issues, Fellowships (eight issues plus your name on the inside cover of each issue), and Patrons (eight issues plus your name on the inside cover of each issue). Subscription information is available by clicking the link to the left.
